Kupenga pounamu taonga
Description
The kupenga in Māori culture is a powerful symbol of connection, resourcefulness, and tradition. Traditionally, kupenga refers to woven fishing nets used by Māori to catch food, representing the deep relationship between people and the ocean. The weaving patterns of a kupenga reflect the interconnectedness of knowledge and ancestry, passed down through generations.
The stone used is pounamu, sourced from the West Coast of Te Waipounamu.
This taonga measures 9cm x 2cm and comes in a lazer-cut wooden box.
Taking care of your Taonga
Wearing your Pounamu close to your skin can help it maintain its polish. This is because it naturally absorbs oils from your skin, which will give it a special connection to you.
To further care for your taonga, you can oil it using any natural household oils or fats such as
- olive oil
- coconut oil
- vegetable oil
- tallow
Doing so will help ensure that it remains sparkling and beautiful for many years to come.
